New here to this wonderful world
Hey, everyone. I'm new here and kind of have an idea how to do online role plays, but I haven't done it in several years now. If somebody wouldn't mind sharing some of the "can do's" and "Never think about its", that'd be a dream come true! Thanks.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
Hi, glad you have joined us. I think you would get the idea of "can do's" and "Never think about it's" from reading a few of the roleplays started by different people on here. It's probably not much different to when you last did it.
To get started...If you have an idea for what you want to do or are open to ideas post it in the adverts section saying which character you want to play and which character you want to play with. Then talk to the person you are thinking of rp-ing with to get to know them a bit in pm's as you discuss plot ideas. Decide on where to set the rp in the series timeline unless it's an AU (Alternative universe).. so you know what has happened in the past and what can be referred to in the rp.
Can do- whatever you and your roleplay partner agree on.
Can write in first person style but most people write in the third person.
Two lines written in First person
SHERLOCK writes "I stand still and scoff at the comment from John and frown"
JOHN replies "I looked into his face and I can see Sherlock isn't amused so I slowly go to the door thinking about what to say and stop waiting for a reply."
Third person style
SHERLOCK writes "Sherlock stood immobile and scoffed at John's comment before frowning. What John had said was correct but he didn't want to admit that he agreed"
JOHN replies "John looked into Sherlock's face and could see that he wasn't amused by his remark. He walked slowly to the door thinking about what to say and paused there waiting to see if Sherlock would tell him what the problem was."
Godmodding is still a "Never think about it" unless your roleplay partner agrees you can with them. The above example gives both players room to write what their character is doing without 'Godmodding' and writing what the other player's character thinks, says or does.
Helpful if you get yourself an avatar, personally I prefer to see a avatar of the character I'm rp-ing with but that's just me.
Can put in as much detail as you like. I love detailed writing that tells you what the character is thinking and if you want to do that I'll try work out an rp to do with you. I play Sherlock or John with different accounts.
Usual things are a text message is in bold "Come if convenient - if not convenient come anyway - SH" and thoughts "He thought about that He'll be lucky! are sometimes in italic.
That's about it really I think. I hope that helps.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
That helps a lot, Thank you so much! I already have an idea, and I would be honored if you would take part in it. I'll go write down my idea in the Adverts section and you can come look at it. Feel free to post any thoughts you want.
Thanks again so much. It does help tremendously.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
Aw thanks. Ooh, Hooray a Molly.
I am not sure if I can step in for the AU rp that you have placed in adverts. I would just have difficulty doing John another way to the series one.
I do have an idea for an rp but my Molly for that disappeared, if you might be intersted?
I need a fairly forward strong Molly rather than a timid one which might be up your street. It is a case based adventure and slow romance while Sherlock is 'dead' between John and Molly. Molly would save John's life. I could make it a Sherlock takes Molly on an adventure though.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
I wouldn't mind either way. I think Sherlock and Molly are a cute couple, but I feel Molly deserves John a little more, and his dedication. I would be very happy if you'd allow me in on your Roleplay.
I like the idea of Molly and John after Sherlock's passing. Whatever you feel would be more comfortable for you, I'm up for though.

Sounds great. I apologize ahead of time if I get confused and need to ask somewhat obvious questions about how to get to the RP forum and such.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
No problem. I pm'd you if it doesn't show up when you sign in then don't worry and I won't. It'll be a nice RP. If we can find a title for the rp I will do a starter post and will post the link to the rp page here for you. If you know what the title is, and it will have your name and mine in it, you will easy see it in the Traditional RP section.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
My pleasure, honest. I remember when I first started and was nervous about it. I'm writing the starter in a word doc, cause I got your pm, and when it's done I'll post it up for you to jump in. Very nice title you came up with.

Nice to meet you and welcome to the forum!
If you need a Sherlock to randomly turn up and ruin things later on in your RP, let me know.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
Dear Molly, you know what he's like, if the entire human race depended on you and me for survival and Sherlock had a case he'd expect me to let the entire race ...fall over into the brink of extinction nearly and he would guilt me into helping him solving the case before saving the species.

Re: New here to this wonderful world
That is true... But without Sherlock, we qould never have met. His ego being in the way is a problem, but life would be to simple without a hurdle to leap.

*giggles after the kiss and leans agaist John* Maybe it's just me, but I feel that the human race will survive after all. Sherlock and his crazy cases or no.
