It all starts one day, a few pints (John Watson/James Moriarty)

John tensed up when Sherlock brought him back to reality. "Yes, of course, I know," it was just that he was bloody useless at this anyway.

He moved closer to Sherlock, looking at what he was looking at, he tried to follow his explanation, but he was rather unable to help.

He looked up when he heard the door open though, wondering if it was Molly coming back.

Staring into the microscope, Sherlock heard a beep. The chemicalgeneratorscan on the computer was completed.
"Any luck?"
Molly was the one who opened the door, he heard. She was not worthy his attention right now.
"Oh yes."
He answered her anyway. It was important to keep being nice to her. He did not know when it could be handy to have her something done for him.

His focus went to the results of the scan, when he heard the door opening a second time.

Molly just stood watching them, awkwardly shuffling her feet. Unlike John, she did understand all the chemical terms Sherlock was using. She occasionally shot off a series of questions and remarks, clearly annoying Sherlock. After a few minutes she was just about to leave as the door opened again.

"Jim!" She said surprised.

John looked up at the familiar name, he didn't expect the person to come in to actually be his Jim though.

He found himself smiling instinctively, the muscles of his legs tensing slightly, ready to walk towards him, it was a nice surprise to meet him like that. Especially when he was thinking about him just a few minutes before.

Seeing Molly embarrassed expression sent a cold shiver up his spine though, and he found himself frozen on the spot.

Jim didn't look like his usual Jim.

The smile on his face was quick to waver then, what was going on?

Jim walked in smiling and straight on to kissing Molly on her cheek before he'd even realized who else he was sharing the room with.

"This is Jim from It I met hi..." As Molly talked Jim's eyes narrowed. His eyes went from Sherlock over to the smaller blonde man. John? What was he doing here? It couldn't be...could it? Could /his/ John be John Watson? Sherlock's pet? No No.... Impossible. "John?! What are you doing here?"

Moriarty was dressed in brown trousers and a grey, clearly one size too small, V neck shirt. A long stringer necklace disappeared right under it. Under his trousers the band of his lime green underwear was clearly visible.

The spark of jealousy that upset John when he saw Jim leaning in to place a soft kiss on Molly's cheek made him sway on his legs for a moment.

His eyes moved away, restless in the room, he was trying to fight the hurt that was spreading in his chest.
No, Jim would never...

He almost missed the question, but at least now it was clear that it was his Jim, his boyfriend.

He couldn't bring himself to reply for a moment though, he looked at Sherlock, silently asking for help.

"H-helping out," he finally said, the colour slowly draining from his cheeks.

He needed to think. This was ruining his whole plan. This, in fact, was ruining /everything./
John couldn't be... no... But the answer was right in front of him. His John was John Watson. He felt torn, he didn't knew what to do and he needed to stay in character. Was that even possible? At this time he was 3 different people. To Molly he was Jim from It. He was "dating" her, even though nothing bad happened between them. To John he was Jim Morarty, boyfriend and sextoy. He was running a company, he was caring and sweet and everything else. And finally, to Sherlock he was Moriarty, insane psychopath who somehow seemed to be very interested in him. This could only go wrong.

"Right.. eh.. Hey you must be Sherlock?" He said, trying to ignore John. He'd find a way to explain later, this wasn't the place or time to do so. "Molly told me a lot about you." He gently placed his hand on Molly's back, smiling at her.

John's eyes were restless, moving from Jim to Molly, not missing the hand that went to rest on the small of her back.

He really wasn't expecting this at all.

He felt like the Jim there was someone he really didn't know, a whole new person.
And his heart broke right there.

He reached out his hand, steadying himself on the counter.

Of course something had to happen, of course he couldn't just be lucky for once.

Sherlock observed Jim when he came through the door. Brown trousers Normal. A grey, far too small, V neck shirt. Suspicious. A necklace... There was almost no doubt anymore. A band of his lime grean underwear, clearly visible. Just checking his shoes for double check... Oh God.

Totally focused on his microscope again, he said:
"Gay."

"Excuse me?" Jim narrowed his eyes. Inside he knew his plan succeeded, Sherlock saw right through. Molly made a sound of disagreement "Sherlock!"

Jim's eyes switched between Sherlock and John, he gave John a "please don't say a word, I can and will explain" Look, hoping he would not start a scene.

John wasn't looking at anyone in the room, he was too busy trying not to crumble.

He was always so fast to temper, but this time the blow had been so unexpected, he felt completely drained.

There was no risk he'd start a scene, there was no risk he'd say anything else at all, all he cared about at the moment was not to have anyone realize just how miserable he felt.

"Oh. Nothing... Hey."

His eyes went from Jim's face to John's. Something was bothering him.

Sherlock gave a little jump when Jim let the plastic pallet clatteron the floor. There could be evidence in there... grrrr he thought. But this thought got little attention when he saw John's expression of irritation. But was it just irritation?

((It's a pity that we skipped the 'Where's your mobile phone... Pocket' thing, I think))

"So... You are working on one of those cases then?" Jim stumbled a bit forward, still ignoring John. Uneasy he placed his hands on the counter, making something fall off. "Oh..I'm sorry.." He quickly picked it up again. "I... I better be off." Nervously he walked over to Molly "I'll see you at 6?" his hand once more ran over her back. "Yes.. Your place?" Molly added. Did she really had to say that? Jim just nodded, and glanced over his shoulder. John's face broke him on the inside. As fast as he could he left the lab. Once outside he let his back slide against the wall until he nearly sat down. His heart was beating fast and he developed an headache. His John was John Watson. How could he not have seen this coming? All the times he'd been talking about his flatmate, he was in fact talking about Sherlock. All the phonecalls, texts, everything. Jim ruffled his own hair before standing up again. He needed some serious thinking. John's face kept coming to his mind. This was not how he planned things, this was not how he wanted his relationship to end.

Meanwhile in the lab Molly was having her go at Sherlock. "He's not gay!! Why can't you never just politely greet people? He's NOT.. gay." She defended him.

John had looked up when Molly asked whether they were going to meet at Jim's place, and he saw the nod.
A pang of nausea made him sway a bit, so they met where Jim and him... where they...
He turned his back to the door, knowing that he could not look any more.

He could not believe he had been played in such a way, he had really believed Jim had said the truth when he talked about his feelings. How had he managed to be so daft?

Molly desperately wanted to convince Sherlock that she was right, that Jim was not gay. Sherlock rolled with his eyes. Who could better know than me? he thought. Sherlock started explaining to Molly why her Jim was ... actually not her Jim.
Molly: "He is NOT gay. Why do you have to spoil-? He's not!..."

"With that level of personal grooming?"

((It's alright ;) Now... do you want Sherlock to notice the tension and speculate about it or shall he just be 'Whatever not chemistry is, is boring'?))

John was staring at the wall, wishing he could disappear right there, he knew Sherlock was going to notice everything, especially after those nagging calls the last few times he had been out the night, but he wondered if he would ask at all.

Could Sherlock be tactful at all?

Would he expose John's pain just as much as he was exposing Jim's homosexuality at the moment?



(Up to you darling, but if Sherlock has feelings on the matter, well, it'd be more dramatic, and I like that, and I think James likes that too ^^ ))

Jim headed home. He needed to think. What would he tell John? And could he still love him knowing who he really was? Would John still want him? If so could he keep lying about his personal life any longer? And what about Sherlock? Would he even allow any of this? Would he know what's up between them? And Molly... If he wanted to continue with John he needed to get rid of her. Would he convince her Sherlock was right? Tell her he actually was gay? He head no idea what to do...

When Sherlock said the last thing, he noticed the same in John's hair. Strange, he'd never noticed that before. Well, maybe he had, but not in this context.

He continued his deduction-monologue.
"Tinted eyelashes, clear sign of taurine cream on the frown lines, tired eyes of someone who sleeps too little and drinks too much. And then, of course, there is his underwear. Visible above the waistline. Very clearly visible. Very particular brand...."

During his talk, he slightly looked at John, staring at the wall and pouting, obviously. And a thought popped up in his head. Was he-... Could he maybe...?

"Plus, the extremely suggestive fact that he just left his number under this dish." He saw John sighing and looking at the ground for a moment. No..... really?

"I'd say you'd better break it off now and save yourself the pain." he said to nobody in particular.

The words rang in John's ear, they hurt, they pulled and tugged at his heart and he looked down again.
"It's too late," he whispered under his breath, not realizing he was speaking at all.

He couldn't believe he had not noticed, he couldn't believe Jim had fooled him completely.

And his leg seized up, the pain becoming physical. He had to grab his thigh not to literally crumble to the floor.
Damn it.
Damn it.
Sherlock was right, love was just a waste of time.

Molly ran away, crying. Saying something that Sherlock was mean or something. He thought he wasn't being mean, but honest. Sometimes the truth can be painful, yes. The door smashed behind her back.

Of course he had heard John. It was the confirmation where he was looking for. The fact that John was holding his bad leg and breathing heavily now, made it all very obvious.

He had to ask it. "Since how long?"

In the meantime Jim couldn't believe what he'd been seeing today. He was confused and still not sure what he'd tell all the people involved, especially John. Though Molly soon came to rescue. She texted Jim saying she rather didn't meet today, rough day at work. Of course he know better, of course he knew she was taking Sherlock's words as gospel. She was now convinced he was gay.

It did turn out to be the best opportunity to invite John over, uncertain whether he actually might come or not. He twirled his phone in between his fingers before tapping a message to John and sending it. He fell on his own bed and closed his eyes while his hands rubbed through his eyes.

This was /not/ what he wanted.
